Patience

“The more you know yourself, the more patience you have for what you see in others.”

—Erik Erickson

The moments when we are feeling the most impatient with our children are precisely the times when it is important to slow ourselves down. As you’re reading this, I encourage you to take a moment to think of the last time you were feeling impatient with your child or to acknowledge any impatience that you are feeling right now. I invite you to close your eyes or soften your gaze and take a few breaths as you recall or connect with the impatience. As you do this, see if you can locate where the impatience lives in your body. What wisdom is there? What are your own needs connected to this impatience? After you’ve done this, take a minute to reflect on what came up for you. Awareness of your own needs can help you parent from a more grounded place.

What resources or support can you tap into to help you meet your needs today?
